The Chinese businessman and general manager of Terraland Group took part in the celebration of Trifon’s Day in northwestern Bulgaria and pruned vines on the hills above the Danube near Lom.

For several years, the young entrepreneur has been purchasing farmland in the riverside region and has been developing viticulture. “We have over 300 hectares of vineyards near the village of Stanevo with different varieties of red and white wine. Last year, we planted 27.2 hectares, and this year we have added another 39 hectares. Our yield last year was very high, I hope this year the vineyards will produce good amount of fruit too,” said Zheng Zhong.

With a scissors in hand, the Chinese owner showed good skills in pruning the vine sticks, and then, according to the Bulgarian tradition, he poured the vines with red wine.

The mayor of Lom Penka Penkova, and farmers, also participated in the ritual, and the slopes along the river were announced with brass music. There are about 40 people working in the vineyards near Danube, and the Chinese businessman’s investments in the region so far are over 5 million euros. The company is preparing to build at least one wine cellar near Lom and the wines will be for the Bulgarian and European markets.
